Anatomy of Bell's palsy

Image
Bell's palsy is a disorder of 7th cranial nerve(facial nerve). In this disease due to viral infection of facial nerve behind ear, the nerve looses it's function.  So there is asymmetry of face, difficulty in closing one eye, absence of wrinkles on one half of face, drooling of saliva from angle of mouth.  Mostly it has good prognosis. If treatment is started early then there can be complete recovery.  Sometimes Bell's palsy may mimic brain stroke and in such cases MRI of brain is done.  There are some red flag signs which may suggest that there is some problem other than Bell's palsy these are: weakness in arms or legs ear pain, ear discharge or bleeding from ear tingling or numbness in hands or feet double vision fever.  If there are any of the above red flag signs then diagnosis is other than Bell's palsy ATHARVA NEURO CARE Dr. Devshi Visana Best Neurologist in Ahmedabad Call: 099048 65577 Address:  203 Spectrum, Near Yash Arian, Vivekanand Chowk, Memnagar, Ahmeda
